Researchers meet to discuss strategies for enhancing early childhood education

Researchers from the Early Learning Network met May 16 in Omaha, Nebraska, to discuss strategies for enhancing early childhood education research and collaborative activities among network research teams.

Carol Connor, Chancellor’s Professor of Education at the University of California Irvine, presented about the Optimizing Learning Opportunities for Students’ (OLOS) Early Learning Observation System. Connor and her team are developing OLOS as a technology-based observational tool that practitioners can use in PreK-3 classrooms to assess instruction, teacher-child interactions, and the classroom learning environment.

Researchers also explored opportunities to capitalize on the combined knowledge of Network scholars and leverage findings across sites to enhance current and future research.

The network’s next group meeting is scheduled for January 2018 in Arlington, Virginia.
