Meet the Assessment Team: University of California, Irvine

Carol Connor discusses University of California, Irvine’s research as part of the Early Learning Network. View video.

University of California, Irvine, is the assessment team for the Early Learning Network. The team will begin development in Southern California PreK and early elementary schools. Following initial development, the assessment team will work with other members of the Early Learning Network to pilot-test and validate the Optimizing Learning Opportunities for Students (OLOS) Early Learning Observation System. These settings include Boston; Fairfax County, Virginia; rural and urban school districts in Nebraska; rural counties in North Carolina; and selected school districts in Ohio.

In a new video, Carol Connor, University of California, Irvine’s principal investigator, shares unique perspectives about her team’s research studies.

“Our aim is to develop an observation system practitioners can use to observe classrooms and improve teacher practice and student outcomes,” Connor said. “I’m personally most excited about OLOS as a professional development tool for teachers. So while we’re focusing on what’s happening with the individual child in the classroom, we’re also looking at what the teacher is doing and how these actions are facilitating better learning opportunities for students.”
